KMbalancer II+ Helps Hydro Aluminium (Suzhou) Optimize Fan Performance Through Advanced Vibration Analysis And Field Balancing
In modern industry, fans are critical assets widely used across power generation, chemical processing, metallurgy, and many other sectors. Their reliable operation is essential for maintaining smooth production processes and maximizing operational efficiency. However, abnormal fan vibration remains one of the most common and challenging issues faced by maintenance teams, often leading to reduced performance, unexpected downtime, and increased maintenance costs.
Several fan units at Hydro Aluminium (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. were experiencing abnormal vibration during operation and required immediate vibration analysis and troubleshooting. To address the issue, KM engineers arrived on-site equipped with KMbalancer II+ Multi-Function Vibration Analyzer and Field Dynamic Balancer, carrying out comprehensive vibration measurements and fault diagnosis on multiple P-series fan and motor systems throughout the facility.

The inspection was conducted in strict accordance with the ISO 10816 Mechanical Vibration Evaluation Standard, using 4.5 mm/s as the vibration alert threshold and 7.1 mm/s as the critical alarm threshold. Through precise vibration analysis, the engineering team accurately assessed the operating condition of each machine, identified the root causes of excessive vibration, and provided reliable data to support corrective maintenance actions and long-term equipment reliability improvements. KMbalancer II+ enabled rapid diagnosis of vibration issues, helping the customer improve fan operating performance, reduce maintenance risks, and enhance overall equipment reliability.
Following on-site inspection with the KMbalancer II+, severe vibration levels were detected in the fan unit. The vibration velocity reached 10.128 mm/s at the motor drive end and 10.627 mm/s at the fan input end, both significantly exceeding the 7.1 mm/s danger threshold defined by ISO 10816, indicating a high-risk operating condition requiring immediate corrective action.

Spectrum analysis identified a dominant 1× running speed frequency, confirming rotor unbalance as the primary source of vibration. The cantilever structure's insufficient vertical stiffness further amplified the vibration levels, while harmonic components suggested potential issues within the belt drive system. Envelope analysis showed no bearing defect frequencies, confirming that the motor bearings were in good condition. KMbalancer II+ combines advanced vibration analysis and field dynamic balancing in a single portable instrument, enabling maintenance teams to quickly diagnose vibration problems, identify root causes, and perform on-site balancing to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
